ULTIMATE at Rome Too Wet Postponed to May 7th – Dixie May 6th Added to Schedule
Rome, Georgia (Sunday, April 23, 2017) – After a significant overnight rainfall and a dismal forecast the remainder of the day officials with Rome Speedway and the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series have been forced to postpone the Rome Rumble for Sunday, April 23rd. The $4000 to win event will be rescheduled to Sunday, May 7th.
In addition to the Rome date the series will now also sanction Dixie’s season opener, another $4000 to win event, on Saturday, May 6th. “We had hoped that the rain would have been minimal and the forecast would improve but it just didn’t. We wanted to let the teams and fans know as early as possible. With the rain that we have had and are still getting combined with the forecast for the rest of the day – it is just going to be impossible to get it in.” said Dixie & Rome Speedway owner Mickey Swims.
“Rainouts are never good for anyone involved. The forecast kept changing back and forth and we were all optimistic that we may be able to get things in today. But now this rain has set in and it looks like it will be here all day. I hate for everyone that was looking forward to today. But we will come back in 2 weeks and have a very nice double header with the Swims family at 2 of the most historic venues in dirt racing. We are certainly looking forward to it.” added ULTIMATE Series Director Kelley Carlton.
Swims also threw down the gauntlet and added a $1000 bonus if a driver can win both events. Making it possible for one driver to take home $9400 if they could sweep the weekend with 2 wins and 2 M&W Transport Haulin’ It Fast Time Awards.
