ULTIMATE Series Set for First Ever Rome Speedway Event April 24th
Carnesville, Georgia (April 12, 2016) – The ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series is set to make it’s first-ever appearance at the historic Rome Speedway in Rome, Georgia. The track nationally known as the “World’s Fastest Half Mile Clay Track” is a favorite among fans and drivers throughout the region. Rome is under the tutelage of Dirt Racing icon Mickey Swims and his family. Rome will host the ULTIMATE Super Late Models on Sunday, April 24th in the $4000 to win Rome Rumble. “It is a real honor to for us to have an event at Rome. Rome and the Swims Family have been so big in the growth and success of our sport. We are really looking forward to bringing our program in for the fans of Floyd County and of Rome Speedway.” said ULTIMATE Series Director Kelley Carlton.
Many drivers that are ULTIMATE Series regulars have found success at Rome over the years and some will be making their first start on that Georgia red clay. One ULTIMATE Series driver who is excited to make the trip is 2014 champion Dennis “Rambo” Franklin of Gaffney, South Carolina. Franklin has entered events at Rome previously but he is most optimistic about this return. “Well Rome is a big half mile place and you carry a lot of speed there. It suits my style to a tee. You can really get out there and stomp the throttle. So I think we have a good shot of getting a good finish and maybe even a big win. Rome would be a good place to do it. They always have real good crowds. This ULTIMATE Series has some good racers running but the local guys at Rome are tough too. So if you can get a win there you know you have earned it.” Franklin said.
The Rome Rumble will pit the regional standouts and some of the best local competitors in the country against the traveling drivers of the ULTIMATE Series. Look for drivers like Franklin along with reigning ULTIMATE Series champion Casey Roberts of Toccoa, Georgia; 2011 Series champion Chris Ferguson of Mt. Holly, North Carolina; leading DirtonDirt.com Rookie of the Year candidate Glenn Elliott of Sykesville, Maryland; Kenny Collins of Colbert, Georgia; Casey Barrow of Savannah, Georgia among others to lead the charge for the ULTIMATE Series at Rome. Rome area drivers TJ Reaid of Ackworth, Georgia and Jason Croft of Woodstock, Georgia have both entered several ULTIMATE Series events thus far in 2016.
Pit Gates open at 3 PM. Grandstand gates are set to open at 5 and racing is schedule to begin at 7. The drivers meeting will be at 6:15. Along with the ULTIMATE Super Late Models Rome will have a full card of support divisions. Grandstand admission is $17; ages 9 to 17 are $6 and ages 8 and under are free. Pits passes are $35, Tailgate- $25 Ages 11 & under $11 for Tailgate & Pits. Rome Speedway is located at 1933 Chulio Rd SE in Rome, Georgia. The ULTIMATE Series tire rule for the event is as follows: All four corners choose from American Racer compounds 48, 53 and 56 or Hoosier compounds 1350, 1450 and 1600 along with ANY 70 allowed as a right rear only option.
